CLOCK PLANS ONLY
We are very proud of our professionally produced and graphically detailed clock plans for Build-It_Yourself customers. Each clock plan features full scale drawings of all contoured parts, bill of materials, and complete assembly instructions as well as the detailed drawings.
Time Antiquities provides its customers with the widest array of choices when it comes to building a clock. You can choose to buy a complete kit that contains everything you'll need or you can simply buy the movement, dial and pendulum and we'll give you the detailed plans necessary to build the clock housing.
Perhaps the most important question to consider is how much time you are willing to commit to the project and how experienced your woodworking skills are. Most of our clock-building customers prefer to buy a complete kit from us but, if you prefer, we can supply you with hardware to build your own case as well as a great selection of movements, dials & pendulums. Our kits include all the hardware, mechanisms, and wood that you need to build a truly fine grandfather clock. A major advantage of purchasing a complete kit is that the most difficult woodworking has already been done for you and that no specialized woodworking equipment or knowledge is required. If you choose this route, we'll start by selecting only the finest quality hardwoods such as cherry, ash and walnut. Important pieces are then hand-selected for consistent color and grain patterns. Our skilled craftsmen then pre-cut, pre-drill, and machine-sand all parts to exacting specifications. The more difficult assemblies are completed for you - such as doors, door frames and gables. All that is required is a fine sanding of all parts, assembly using common shop tools, and staining to your tastes. No special tools are required.
We provide all the hardware you require including screws, hinges, door lock & key, levellers, escutcheon plates and glass retaining rubber. All you have to purchase is the stain and glue and sandpaper.
Our clock kits are designed for the novice to intermediate woodworker. Detailed step-by-step instructions are included. Depending on the model, we estimate it should take from 5-10 hours (wall clock kit) to 30-60 hours (grandfather clock kit) to completely assemble and finish a kit.
Characteristics of a Time Antiquities Grandfather clock kit: pre-drilled and precision mitre-cut case parts critical components such as the door, door frames and gables are assembled using ultramodern joiners and presses. Hard-to-make wood parts include your choice of faces (or dials), pendulums, and precision cable or chain driven clock movements. More experienced hobbyists might choose to source most of the wood themselves and just purchase the clock hardware, mechanisms, bevelled glass, and hard-to-make wood parts instead.
Time Antiquities provides an outstanding selection of both hard-to-make parts and bevelled glass for clock builders at prices that can't be beat. Time Antiquities will include all the plans and specifications required to build a grandfather clock as long as you buy the mechanisms (movement, dial, and pendulum) from us.
The most challenging option is to build a clock from scratch. This option is recommended only for individuals with advanced woodworking skills. If you choose to go this route, we'll provide you with detailed plans and specifications as well as 100% full scale drawings of the hard-to-make parts. You can choose to purchase just the clock mechanisms from us or you can also source the clock hardware and bevelled glass from us. When you choose to build from scratch, your options are truly unlimited! We sell complete sets of heavy duty beveled glass for all of our grandfather, wall and mantel clocks at very competitive prices. Each piece is 3/8" (5mm) thick with a 1" bevel. Special packaging allows us to ship glass anywhere. Each piece is precision cut and beveled and shaped pieces are beveled by hand. If you are purchasing our clock plans, we strongly recommend that you purchase the appropriate beveled glass from us.
For those of you who wish to build one of our clock kits from scratch using our plans, you can save by purchasing pre-packaged hardware that includes all the fittings you will need to complete your clock. Depending on the model, your pre-packaged hardware kit will include: Lock and key set; Escutcheon plate; Door hinges; Levelers; Door pulls; double ball catches; Glass retaining rubber, and even screws and nails for assembly.
